The complicated plot is impossible to understand. The explanation for the poisoning/stabbing is an embarrassing absurdity. Nice images of the waning days of English upper class banality, but nothing makes up for the incoherence of the plot. Grossly overrated by critics. Shame on them.

Rarely has so much literary genius been smothered by excess description. What should have been thrilling becomes a burdensome slog.

Almost perfect. The denouement is too improbable.

A piece of adolescent drivel. Sergio Leone directs a preposterous script with boring, empty antics signifying nothing.

An inchoate, childish attempt at social commentary, distinguished by the lavish visual effects, which disguise the immature, pretension of the movie as poorly as a dusting of glitter would disguise spoiled fish.

The essential requirement for enjoying the show is to remain utterly uncritical of the plot or the stunning absurdity of its elements of Druid magic. Once unburdened of your intelligence, Britannia is good to look at if you like great scenery and sadistic violence.

Imagine the most thrilling caper of James Bond researched by Edward Gibbon. That it the magnificent creation achieved by Eugene Fitzmaurice. Have a rollicking good read while learning all you might ever want to know about Jesuit intrigue within the Church of Rome from China and the West.
