The authors demons are the anxiety provoking thoughts and his multiple military experiences. Even though he was not an active soldier in combat, he still experienced and was exposed to the violence, killing, and the nature of war. The demons he speaks of, he combats with scripture verses. The “enemy,” the demons, finally go away. This is how scripture instructs us to combat the enemy. Prolonged exposure to extreme violence, negative emotions, negative experiences if not processed, healed and released, culminate into fear. This needs to be released in some way.
