All the dialogue is exposition and it's incredibly repetitive. Poor Katara's fire had been doused and she's been reduced to cardboard. They took an emotionally complex character with a strong personality and made her 120% bland. The magic from the character arcs is gone, does Sokka even get an arc? How is removing making him overcome his sexist behaviors a good idea? It's way more sexist of the show itself to remove him dressing up in Kyoshi gear and makeup. Netflix, you don't get a character arc to recover from being transphobic. Having Suki destroy him when he's in her gear not only set him up to begin seeing the error of his ways, but also gave Suki depth and personality of her own.
This is just the first couple of episodes! Don't get me started on butchering Bumi. I could write a novel about all the things Netflix got wrong. Just re-watch the original.
The visuals are stunning, and that's about it. The writing is so god-awful, no wonder the original creators bailed.
