Let me start this by saying that I’ve been playing Overwatch for a long time, and there were some things I actually liked about Overwatch 2. The maps and the character designs I can tell have had a lot of work done on them, combat wise the game is virtually the same and I like that.
That being said however, there is a lot flawed with this game compared to the previous. For one, the format of most things now look very “cheap”. For example the new hero gallery, or the screen you see after a match (where ordinarily the medals would show, but I suppose they removed that as well). The new blocky font they’ve been using throughout is an odd decision too, it makes everything just give that “cheap” vibe.
Another flaw is the feature of unlocking heros. Something that made Overwatch unique was the fact you were given this large variety of heros, all with different abilities that could be discovered. But now most heros are virtually not offered until way later in the game.
And finally my biggest complaint: The Battle Pass. Although controversial, as it was seen as slight gambling, Loot Boxes were another unique feature of Overwatch, where you can get a whole bunch of items without having to spend any coins at all! But they added the battle pass. It’s almost like their only goal was to be like literally every other video game. And coming from the perspective of someone who’s never played another game that involved battle passes, it’s unnecessarily confusing, and I’d rather go back to loot boxes.
Personally though I think it’s frustrating that the original version of the game is now unplayable, as in not available anymore. So one couldn’t go back to that original version if they hated this new version and let the people who like Overwatch 2, play Overwatch 2. Let us get all of the features that we loved back.
Edit 10/16/22: After a few play throughs and my account being merged, I have come to the conclusion that there is something else that thoroughly disappoints me. I love skins in Overwatch, and the easiest way was getting coins (ordinarily achieved through loot boxes). And let me preface this by saying I don’t want to spend actual money on this game, and that I don’t want to spend hours on end playing it. So why is it the only way to get coins is by playing a crazy amount of the game in a week, and even then you don’t get enough coins for it to be worth it. This is highly disappointing for someone who just plays this for leisure. Loot boxes made it easy to do that and still gain some coins, and also gain a fair amount of accessories. Now they’ve made it unnecessarily complicated and difficult to actually get things you want. I am thoroughly disappointed, Blizzard.
