This show grew on me... A LOT. I originally tuned into this series off the strength of Mike Epps. I can count on getting a good laugh in everything he does. After watching the first episode, I'll be honest, the show seemed kind of corny to me. I wasn't really into it. I came back to it a few nights later and gave it the benefit of the doubt because I know first episodes are usually just the pilot episode. I will be completely honest, the show got a lot funnier as the series progressed. It still has some of that cheesy, sitcom humor, but I found myself laughing out loud a lot more than I was expecting and I ended up finishing the series within a few days.
I enjoyed the development of the storyline and the characters. Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes have some of that Martin and Pam chemistry where you love to see them hate on each other. I know Netflix has a couple of other black sitcoms like the new Jamie Foxx show and the Marlon Wayans one. Don't group The Upshaws in with those. This shows stands above them. I wish it was like the old sitcoms where seasons were like 20+ episodes. I'm definitely glad this got renewed for a 2nd season and I'm looking forward to it being released.
