Great movie that tackles a subject so many people look away from, poverty and addiction. Many never escape from the trauma of such a childhood so to see a man who beats the odds to do is inspirational. Amy Adam’s portrayal of a mother that gave up after trying to escape her own trauma while clueless the trauma she now has passed down to her own kids is spot on. You can feel Gabriel Basso as JD’s struggle to prosper while still remaining loyal to his past aka family, as it can make him feel inferior, but eventually drives him harder to not fail. Great movie that should show people who are lucky enough to not have a family member with a substance abuse disorder, or generational trauma caused by it, a small glimpse what life looks like.
