I seem to be the only person who doesn’t like this book. The first half is pretty good. Interesting story line but the writing isn’t great. The second half is pretty awful. Cliches and philosophy themes are sprinkled throughout for some reason, the ending is predictable, the last few chapters drag on and again the writing and dialogue isn’t that good. Would not recommend

I think it’s very important for more novels to be written in the experience of the modern day Native American since they are so often overlooked. That being said, I didn’t care much for this novel. It’s pretty depressing

I wish I could give this book a 0. How can any adult read this book and believe any of it? A three year old vividly remembers all the multiple towns she lived in? Her mother can’t spell but taught her children how to read and write? At 5 years old she attends school for the first time and gets beat up for being smarter than all the other kids in the class? The father has no job no money and an alcohol problem but buys multiple cars, rents a uhaul and continuously rents new apartments and houses? Why didn’t anyone call social services? Why didn’t the grandmother take the kids away? Why do the kids keep falling out of the car and no one notices? I don’t buy any of this. Plus the authors tone of writing feels like she’s retelling hilarious anecdotes of her madcap father. I read 50 pages and that was 50 pages too many.
