I love this study Bible. It has a lot to offer for people looking for a more critical, academic approach to biblical study. There are also commentaries that explain how certain passages have been historically interpreted, which guides people who are looking for a more theological approach to biblical study. Each book is introduced with an introductory essay by a biblical scholar that explains the book’s composition, dating, and other information that helps in understanding and appreciating the book in its own context. There are also colored maps and charts that are helpful for anyone who wants to dig deeper. Another good resource to go with this study Bible is Richard Elliott Friedman’s “The Bible with Sources Revealed” (that covers the Pentateuch) and “Who Wrote the Bible?”
