I just saw the movie today and I have to say I was quite disappointed.
First of all I feel like the marvel movies are gradually moving away from being about super heroes. I personally feel like this movie was more of a horror movie than a marvel movie.
If you are a parent thinking about taking your smaller children to see this movie…..just don’t.
Reason being is (SLIGHT SPOILER) because of the following scenes—
A person is burned alive, a robot is behead with oil spilling out of it resembling blood, a person’s head is caved in, a person is shredded to pieces, a person is cut in half, a person is also crushed by a statue, a person’s neck is snapped, a person is impaled by falling on a spiked fence, oh and a monsters eye is plucked out of its head.
Another reason being is because of really dark subjects apart of the movie. For example, there is an over-the-top amount of witchcraft and sorcery. In the movie they also refer to rituals and possession. In one scene they talk about possessing a dead person. (I mean I get it’s Dr. Strange & Wanda but seriously?)The monsters in the movie also resemble demons and ghosts.
Lots of jump scare scenes and zombie scenes. :(
Another reason why I didn’t really like this movie was because they were extremely advertising real world problems. I don’t have a problem with any of them but people really just wanna go to a movie to get away from the real world. I hated the way they portrayed Wanda in the movie and how they left her story off. I was also disappointed in the way that they introduced America Chavez.
I really feel like she had a lot of potential but instead they decided to portray her as Dora the Explorer. They could have shown off her raw power a bit more as well.(she was literally just screaming through the whole thing) Also, (SPOILERS) they introduced a few characters with a lot of potential but just ended up killing them off. (GRUESOMELY)
The only thing I really liked about the movie was the visual effects and scenery.
In conclusion, I really miss the way when Marvel movies were actually about heroes vs. villains.
Poor character development, messy plot, gruesome, just not Marvel, etc.
