I’m not sure how this book is getting so many good reviews. I’m so disappointed as I never get time to read books but this one seemed good.
At first I was hooked. It seemed a good premise.
However the more I read it the more I realised this was turning into a victim blaming type book and it made me feel really uncomfortable.
One of the main characters got together with her husband when she was 14/15 (met at 13) and he was in his 40s. Through the later parts of the film this is excused a couple of times and blamed on HER eventually! I’m sorry but that is just completely unacceptable. She was clearly a vulnerable child whose mother didn’t want her and she needed help. She didn’t get any help so grew up to have major mental health problems. None of this is addressed.
In the end the husband is described as overall a good person because he’s a good day to their kids and she is branded as evil.
I just can’t get my head round how a woman could write a book like this.
Very strange.
