TLDR: strangers one was good, this one was a sad remake. #asthmakills 1/10 What a waste of a classic. While the home invasion slasher isn’t always a popular hit, this proved to those on the fence why they are bad. Being a fan of the first one and hoping for a more in depth view of how these villains came to be, this movie was in reality a sad try at a remake. There was nothing to grab on to with the victims, by the time Act 2 had begun there was the bare minimum given to these characters you almost wanted them to not make it. When all the action began it feels like this was a “what not to do in this situation” horror movie. There was nothing smart about the moves that these characters made, granted most slashers are like that, this felt like it was unintentionally humerous. It’s also so hard to root for the “man” in this film when his one weakness is asthma. At one point in the theater the entire audience laughed because of how frustrating it was to watch them fail. While some jump scares did the Job, and the classic “they are there one second gone the next” was included, this was not it for me. To quote the somewhat intoxicated woman who yelled this halfway through the film “let’s watch these two morons get murdered.”
