Awful. Awful. Awful.
I knew after reading the reviews this film would be bad, but as a light-hearted Sunday evening mood I thought I'd give it a try. Big mistake.
The first act takes up more than half of the film. Why we needed such a big set up is beyond me, particularly when the characters lack any development, motive or substance. I was particularly disappointed in protagonist Don's (Finn Coles) development which all round seemed underdeveloped for our main character.
The action part come in about 20mins from the end and even so remains slapstick gore with little to no comedy. As well as a scapegoat 'that will do' ending.
The plot is unfocused and rambling. Which contains midly interesting subplots of teenage suicide and childhood tragedy that would be a sensitive and rich area to uncover if it wasn't craskly skimmed over with fart and orgy remarks.
Finn Cole delivers a fine performance, though hardly comparable to his time with Peaky Blinders. Asa Butterfield delivers a mildly entertaining yet charticure performance. Meanwhile lord knows why Pegg and Frost got involved in this. Margot Robbie pops in occasionally for a quick hello in a role which she must have been paid far too much for.
Overall for a star studded cast and in fairness and semi interesting concept, this film remains to be a failure. Poor script, plot and direction leaves this film to be one of the worst I have seen in recent times.
