I’d call it audience abuse. No kidding. It was that bad. 3 hours of relentless meaningless, untethered, needlessly drawn out, exasperating, scenes that did not make sense at any point and ended with a blank nothingness. Zero redeemable qualities. The only reason we continued watching it was the hope that maybe it would tie together somehow. Truly I was so upset at the end that we had wasted 3 hours hoping for a shred of cohesion or purpose. None to be had.
The trailer is deceivingly intriguing and of course Joaquin Phoenix is a compelling and skilled actor so of course we were looking forward to a decent experience.
What’s strange is that after looking at reviews - it’s not getting panned all the way around. Bizarre.
Don’t waste your time unless you are curious about how bad it is and maybe curious about the term audience abuse because that’s really what it felt like.
