As much as I would love to love this show, I'm one episode in I'm already conflicted. On one hand, I love the casting choices for the three dregs that we meet (Nina, what did they do to you?), but on the other, the casting choices for Alina and Mal are baffling. Alina's Shu Han? And I doubt that the racism towards her persists into the series. I thought Mal would be more handsome, but I guess that doesn't really matter. The biggest issue I see moving forward, though is the mixing of Leigh's two series. Six of Crows and the Grisha Trilogy aren't really the same story, and mixing the two could come with some serious writing issues later on. Of course, this first episode already has a lot of issues when it comes to its writing. It's a bit confusing even for someone who's read the books, and the fact that Nina's character doesn't know who any of the other dregs are is a bit weird. I don't even know where Matt and the other kid (sorry, I forgot his name, but he's a cool character in the books, I do like him) even fit into the story as it goes along. I'll continue watching, only because it might surprise me and pull out some great writing, but I don't think there's a good chance of that happening. If you're a fan of the books, it might be worth your time. I just don't know what the tone or subject of this series is going to be based solely on what's happened in the books. I just hope it turns out good at the very least.
