Being a Scot and living in American-culture, or lack there of, this movie was like an unexpected trip home for me. I loved it. Covid has kept me away for too long.
I love Brooke Shields and thought she was perfect all the way through. She is truly beautiful.
I cringed at the accent of Cary Elwes when he first started out ie. “tore” instead of “toor” but found myself warming up to him and overlooking additional clangers.
I used to belong to a wee knitting club not unlike the one featured in the movie, it warmed my heart to see how it was a central part of the story. I loved all the knits featured in the movie.
The decoration of the village and castle with wreaths and lights everywhere is NOT a traditionally Scottish thing to do -more like Disney. I felt it to be an American version of what Scotland should look like.
I thought the story was beautiful though and I have personally known people like the characters when I lived there and during the many trips home I have made. The accents were a mix of Glasgow, Fife, and Aberdeen. In real life there are a lot of Northern European and English people living and working in rural Scotland.
I hated the ending where Drew Barrymore made jokes about ScotLAND being next to DisneyLand. I don’t think that added anything to the film and would like to see that part removed. It was an insult to the people of Scotland.
I am an animal lover but not a fan of animal actors in movies. Hamish did add to the overall movie though. Also, he added an extra layer to the love story.
