This is a novel that you cannot stop reading. The story of a boy who is the sole survivor of a plane crash that kills his parents and beloved brother, Dear Edward is a powerful, yet delicate examination of the randomness of existence and the meaning of loss. It is also the story of how the people left behind by a tragedy slowly come to terms with that randomness and once again find meaning in their lives. The book is far from sentimental, but its empathy is startling. I think that it is beautifully written without being showy. I also think that the book is unforgettable.
