Disclaimer: I have just begun reading the book, and due to wanting another past time, I decided to watch the show. I have seen the movie (a masterpiece honestly); but I have yet to push through an entire episode of the show.
From the little I read of the book and the little Iโve watched from the show - the contrast is GREAT. In the book, weโre introduced to Louis. A pacifist vampire, whose personality seems to be built upon remorse, regret, and maybe a sense of nostalgia. He is to be the total opposite of Lestat, a vampire who finds no shame in killing and is a bit too proud of who/what he is. In the show, we meet Louis, but definitely not the same Louis from the book. I understand that Americans once owning slaves is a touchy subject, but itโs also a subject we shouldnโt ignore. Louis (book) has even said that he was ignorant and ill-educated when he was still living in his plantationโฆ But fine, letโs make TV Louis into a black man. We can work that in somehow. But.. weโre also going to change the settingโฆ okay. We can still work with thatโฆ Also weโre going to make Louis incredibly unlikable. Thatโs what annoys me. They changed his profession into that of a pimp, which literally left me in shock because I feel like there was multiple other options we couldโve chose from. His father owned a sugar millโฆ they couldโve just used that ๐ญ He also gives into his angerโฆ like a lot. In the book, it happens too, but this Louis (TV) is a bit more arrogant and proudโฆ Not at all the suicidal and depressed Louis we all know and love ๐โ๏ธ
I figured they were going to make Louis and Lestat gay- but it was too much immediately. Iโm not one for unnecessary spicy scenes, tbhโฆ They had that in the original film, but it was done with a kind of an aesthetic lens. This was sex just to have sex. Idk it just seemed forced.
