Dances with wolves is one of those movies which really challenges perceptions. Having not lived through the times I cannot be sure but it does seem accurate historically. Certainly for many years we have known that native Americans were systematically exterminated. However this movie challenges you to consider both sides. It makes you understand the simplicity of the Indian culture and also shows the wisdom and at times naivety. Costner really gets his teeth into this role and you are taken on a journey, sometimes frustrating sometimes humorous and always thoughtful. I love westerns and this is a great. Give yourself the time to watch. It really does warrant it. And be enchanted , be angry but be entertained. It really is a great movie
