The book is an interesting account of the lives of Bugis hero, Arung Palakka around the seventeenth century AD. It brings the readers into the world of South Sulawesi, from their culture, myths, legends, and histories. Even though focusing on the lives of Arung Palakka, the stories of the kingdoms of South Sulawesi were told extensively, about the alliance made between Bone, Soppeng and Wajo, that of Goa and Tallo became the Kingdom of Goa-Tallo and many other kingdoms. For those who researched the history of South Sulawesi, this book is a very important book. The Indonesian edition was published by Penerbit Ininnawa under the title of "Warisan Arung Palakka: Sejarah Sulawesi Selatan Abad Ke-17".

The book is a fascinating account of the relationship between Jambi dan Palembang throughout the early modern ages. It also explores the connection between those two city-states with the Java Kingdom of Mataram and European explorers. It is a must-read for whoever studied either Palembang or Jambi or both.
