“Pariah” is all about the outcast, muddy street dogs. A very thought provoking cinema indeed. At the end of the stormy 138 minutes I sat there lost for words, overwhelmed !. There are few rare moments when I stop interacting with people around me, and the essence of the event seeps to my existence. Pariah shook me to the core. !
The hall/ Nandan, the Romance of the projection room the cloudy windy April evening, a youngish group performing a roadshow within the Nandan campus had set the mood right already for us, rest of the magic happened in the hands of Tathagata Mukhopadhyay, the Director and Screenplayer of ‘Pariah’. The film started off with the constellation ‘Sirius’ and wrapped up wonderfully with the mystery gently getting unravelled from the male protagonist played by Bikram Çhatterjee. Bikram wore the mantle supremely well. Soumya Mukherjee’s extremely eloquent acting stopped me from breathing at moments, he was absolutely one with the character. The innocence and naive nuances in the character played by Angana Roy fitted to the aspects so very aptly. I have appreciations for Debashis Roy who emoted the character to the fullest, with measured amount of jest which added on to the shine of the scenes
Pariah made me hopeful of coming back again and again to watch such sparks of brilliance by the youth of Bengal!!
