It takes a few episodes to be hooked, but hooked you will be if you stick with it. Everything about the show just keeps getting better as it goes along. This is Game of Thrones with pirates. In many ways I enjoyed this more than Game of Thrones. There’s more color here…the bright vivid scenery really takes you into the environment. The characters just keep growing on you. None of them are cardboard cutouts…these are complex personalities that have sides you will love and hate. The show ends perfectly, and 4 seasons is just the right amount, though I found myself regretting it was over. Unlike Game of Thrones, I didn’t know what was going to happen, because there are no books to read in advance. Perhaps this is what GOT would have been like for me, had I not read the books. Regardless, I find that I have enjoyed this series possibly more than GOT. I really enjoyed the blend of factual and fictional characters.

I enjoyed watching season 1 however, it was like watching an alternate reality of the book. For me, I really wish they had stuck closer to the source material. I understand some deviations here and there but this was a complete rewrite. The book was mostly about struggles they faced from town to town as they tried to reach their destination, and that was mostly lost here. As an alternative universe wheel of time this was fine, but as a true representation of the book this was a fail.

Better than Game of Thrones, Vikings is solid all the way through, with only a few sections that could have been edited out. Thank you Vikings for bringing me back to a different era.
