A very, very disjointed and highly amaturish production. Martin Sheen is excellent...but struggles with the disjointed and fantasy nature of the play and the strong sense of an amateur regional community project simply having a romp to little purpose.
Nye Bevan was an interesting character, a bed rock socialist.... amazingly Bevan said many memorable speeches and quotes....which the writer seems to have bypassed in his enthusiasm for his own script...he appears to have even missed out Nye Bevans most famous and obligatory quote on dealing with the doctors supporting the new NHS...."I'll stuff their mouths with gold."
Most members of the public or tourists visiting the National Theatre will be left bemused what an earth was going on.
