No spoilers btw
Most sequels to an amazing original trilogy just botch the previous movies (Star Wars for example), they kinda just destroy the world that the previous movies set up and even take a step back in creativeness of plot and world building, not to mention the lack of interesting characters.
- Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes defied all that: it produced a movie that matches the first three in excitement, unique plot, setting, and actually interesting and lovable characters.
- It expanded on the world: after the downfall of the humans and the rise of the different ape clans.
- Noa was a perfect protagonist: he went through loads of character development which is needed for a good main character.
- Caesar Proxima (and that one gorilla) were fantastic villains: they stood for all Noa was against and were a great part in his character development.
- Plus there were eagles, so that was kind of a cool little gimmick.
In short, it was a great original movie that expanded on the world of the original Caesar Trilogy and offers great new characters.
5/5; I’ve seen it twice already ;)
