Most Star Trek series often suffer from a very weak first season despite being an otherwise good show. Do yourself a favour and skip out the first half of the first series. I say this as someone who did hate this to begin with, and there is a genuine night and day difference in tone, writing quality, and direction from the first few episodes compared to the later ones. If you watch it from the start, you are going to hate it.
The show is an affectionate parody of Star Trek tropes, elements, and ideas from stories. Most of these it does nail and nails very well, especially once character development and better establishment of who the cast are kicked in. The jokes are written by people who understand the quirks and bizarre qualities of the franchise, with no shortage of in jokes and even winking at the camera, but it's backed by some surprisingly solid character development and internal storytelling, so it's not just banking on nostalgia.
Really, once it gets going, this is Galaxy Quest meets Red Dwarf. Just please, for the love of all that's holy, do not judge this series by how it starts.
