Long awaited and with a good pedigree from the stable of Spielberg and Hanks it has a lot to live up to but also has the opportunity to set some standards in its own right. 2 Episodes in and its it's looking good so far. I did think the initial introduction to the cast and crews was a bit short and they could have made more of the 100th making their way over the Atlantic it made it look like a short ferry trip where as in reality it was far from it. The formation of B17s through the approaches made good TV but I felt it lacked realism compared to the accounts of actual pilots.. I was hoping there would be the use of real aircraft more for flying shots especially take off etc but some of the shots make the B17 look like a tiger moth as it jumps into the air.. The Flak on missions is how I imagine it to be based on crew accounts and probably the best I've seen on any film..it really shows how horrifying it must have been and how difficult it must have been to drop a bomb on target while in a hail storm of Flak. The missions were long in real life but you don't get that impression from the missions we have seen so far... The aerial shots are ok but not the best..the CGI lacks realism still but is better than films like Midway. Memphis Belle still has the edge visually but am looking to see how the story of the 100th is put over and hope they don't rush it... I'm glued to it though being an aviation buff. The Characters are shaping up and you don't expect them to be as shabby as those in Band as Brothers. Would have been good if they had got archive footage and interviews with veterans like they did in Band of Brothers it would have tied it in well. Can't wait for Friday and the next episode..
