By this time the biggest threats to travel were disease and bandits but did Indians really come to the rescue?
Also, the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1870 or so. Laramie was a stop on the railroad. If they got to Laramie, why wouldn’t they just jump on the train? Seems like an easier route through the mountains to me.
