C.J.R.Isely is able to draw any reader into the story through her knowledge of swordplay and horsemanship, rather than a reliance on some of the cliches of the genre.
She balances description well enough without going overboard. This creates a narrative I found to be engaging, interesting, flowing from setting to action to little details about interactions (horsemanship and swordsmanship, for instance) which pleasantly surprise your reader's journey while, at the same time, establishing in them trust that you know what you're doing.
