I was given this book by my daughter on Christmas Day ,and had finished by 27th December ,could not put it down which for a work of non fiction is something , compelling , full of interesting anecdotes or perhaps better referred to as testimonies of brave and departed souls many of whom through music continue to enrich our cultural souls.

Ignoring the fact that this film is historically flawed , it gets one thing absolutely right and that is Napoleon was a nasty piece of work , dictator, product of a bloody and inevitable revolution in France and the cause of immense suffering and millions of death in Europe , why some French celebrate him goodness only knows.! they have so many other great men and women to praise why waste time on the Corsican thug.
Technically the film is very good, the battle scenes spectactular if wildly innacurate, and the acting in some case very good.
