I like the story, the orphaned little girl becoming a chess prodigy. In the time it was written women were not given much of a choice in how they wanted to live. Beth's mother was a lost housewife that could not take care of herself and by grace adopts a teenager with a gift that could support them both. the author gave her strength but took it back with the addiction he gave her. The movie was still a good one.

Been a Stephen King fan for over thirty years. I love shows with twists and turns plots and sub plots. I binge watch because I have to see whats next.
