The Great Gatsby is a perfect example of a movie that excels at adapting a classic piece of American literature. Throughout the film, Luhrman constantly alludes to the effective writing of F. Scott Fitzgerald, including direct quotes, images, and color symbolisms from the original novel. Despite the steadfast adhesion to the source material, Luhrman still takes liberties that cause the movie to feel like a creative and original masterpiece. Minor plot points are often omitted to create a more smooth progression of the Daisy-Gatsby love story, and the peculiarly modern music choice creates a present day vibe while watching a film set in the 1920s. This film is perfection personified, and is without a doubt Baz Luhrman’s most impressive work.
