I never write reviews. I do watch more movies than I’d like to admit…maybe the fact that I am writing this one says something? I don’t know. This is one Hulu automatically chose for me, so I can’t even take credit for choosing it. Congrats to the algorithms at play though. I think you def have to be in the right mood to watch a movie like this. I wasn’t looking to be entertained, but was unexpectedly and profoundly moved. I was completely captivated with the in depth character development, layered delivery, and the body language, which spoke volumes. It had to given the subject matter and that the entire thing takes place in one lackluster room, which was appropriate. It kind of reminded me of a Broadway play with the minimalistic set and lack of Hollywood theatrics. It made me appreciate how believable and emotionally raw the performances were even more. Given the subject matter, I thought it was an unbiased rarity in today’s politically polarized environment. It chose instead to hone in what it means to be human and to unwrap the complex parental obligations when faced with the incomprehensible actions and situational outcomes of a child. Powerful, dynamic, compassionate, and believable performances from the entire ensemble.
