Although I have never been a film critic, and an admitted fan of Ms.Davis's body of work, I dare say this is one of her most under-rated films in her repertoire. It is also (in my opinion) one of her most glamorous. In this film you catch the studio allowing her to be contemporaryly beautiful. (Without the vanity.) You really won't see again until 'All About Eve' Although she has often portrayed strong, willful, and conniving women as well as vulnerable, dutiful characters, in this film she displays a certain obvious fear mostly throughout. This film does also have a nuanced humor displayed not only by her, but also the great Claude Rains. I've always loved them together, (great chemistry). Paul Henrid is very stoic as usual.Good though. If you are a fan or new to Ms. Davis, I highly recommend. As I said it is a slight departure from the expectations.
