I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is or would like to be a student of World War 2. 15 pages into it, you'll soon realize that the person writing this, Dr. Gerhard Weinberg, is a true heavyweight in his knowledge and work in digging up facts. Later on you'll realize the following: That this is a 920 page SUMMARY written by someone with most likely, more knowledge on the subject than anyone on the planet. I exaggerate not. Along with the myriad of facts, some truly amazing, are his thoughts and hypotheses on many events - those also based largely on the facts. This makes it stunning. I only wish the maps were far better, they don't equal the writing. Because of the hundreds of facts, it's a slow read. But I've just now finished my third reading of it, and tend to take another lap. Virtually EVERY country dealing with WWII is discussed - many at length. One might ask why study a War now 80 plus years old? Well, when 5 or more people strangely die, it can make the national news. One if you're famous. How about 39,000 plus people dying..............not in the entire War.............but EVERY SINGLE DAY OF WORLD WAR 2 FOR 6 YEARS. We owe history to knowing this horrific occurrence. We owe those who died. Gerhard Weinberg LIVED during WW II in Germany before fleeing....Read the book.
