Bad:
Some frame rate issues. (think code vein chugging between each zone here)
Not enough enemy variety for some.
Floaty platforming can be mid.
A few samey/lamey boss designs
A few questionable level designs (let's NOT pay homage to the WORST areas in souls games. Maybe imitate the BEST parts????)
No resolve by closing time.
Good:
Solid humor/characters throughout.
Fantastic attention to detail.
Mostly fanboy inducing references to games and shows related to this project/dev.
Shell system is a revelation for humor and function.
Solid combat for a short experience.
Trophies/achievements are fun to collect/finish.
Mostly great art, voice acting, pacing, writing.
Mostly fantastic level design.
Fun rollout for skills/upgrades throughout.
Overall it tried some new stuff and stuck to the mechanical basics enough each to make a fun, bright, and accessible souls like that, above all, is FUN to play.
Hardcore souls gitgud dorks beware. This isn't a serious or deep mechanical game. It was never trying to be. It's fun.
