T;he multiple story lines kept me coming back and not going to bed until 3 a.m. The trauma histories of the two main characters give them a special bond that is intense and has the viewer rooting for them from the beginning. The change in Annette O'Toole's character at the end is wonderful and cautiously hinted at throughout. The acting is excellent and the story line gripping, though sometimes the great number of emergencies in the little village is a bit overdone. The one big flaw was Charmaine's pregnancy. It was too predictable, cliche, and done to death. Please don't have Mel deliver the baby; one can "suspend disbelief" only so far. It's too late to do anything about it, but only a year has passed since Mel's husband, whom she loved to intensely, died. It would have been more realistic if more time had passed. It makes you wonder about how she experiences relationships. Hollywood always seems to treat loss in a relationship like a minor blip that a person can overcome in a year or two and be happily ever after with someone else. I was sorry to see it end, and hope we won't have to wait too long for the next season.
