First off, this show isn’t trying to be like any other super hero show out there… it’s part parody, part comedy, part commentary on the genre, but it sometimes feels like it forgets this. I didn’t like this show, but that’s only because I’m not a huge fan of this type of satire… if you are, then I recommend it for you. If you’re looking for a “normal” super hero show then skip this and watch Superman and Lois, The Boys, Invincible, Titans, if you don’t mind multiple timelines then Jupiter’s Legacy was way better than I thought it would based off the reviews… Guardians of Justice is trying to illustrate that many shows nowadays can come off as formulaic (although I think I listed options that were all different in great ways) by mixing animation, narration, and campiness. My main issue is how heavy handed they are with these techniques. With a little more restraint and consideration I think this show would have appealed to much broader audience. I would suggest everyone check out the first episode and remember the goal of the creators was to upend the status quo… and that’s not only great, but important… so watch with an open mind and don’t compare it to your favourite shows because that’s not what it’s tying to be.
