As a European I really enjoyed it, but understand that for a USA audience it did not have enough “action”, blood, explosions and killing. Tastes vary and that is why cinema needs variety. Perhaps in Europe we appreciate the story, the interconnection between characters more than the visual excitement, and that’s fine, each to their own as we say. The film locations, visual approach created a film with mood, texture and had the romantic element. A big thumbs up from me.

One of the best examples of fine character acting on film, possibly Liz Taylor’s finest performance. Richard Burton was also truly captivating, a performance worthy of an Oscar, but was pipped to the post by Paul Scofield if I am correct. A masterclass .
