I wanted to love this movie… but instead I found it frustrating. The story line is great and the movie has about ten minutes of thoughtful stimulating conversation… The husband’s character and the relationship between husband and wife is really poorly developed. They meet and the next scene follows a declarative 12 years later shot… no montage, no understanding why they fell in love, what their relationship is currently like. The Korean male friend’s character is slightly more developed but his character development still left me wanting to know more. For me this movie was more a metaphor for Nora being caught between two cultures than caught between past and present loves… It drives me crazy when the mechanism for time passing is a screen announcement “12 years later” when a thoughtful montage could give you so much more… overall, not a fan.
