I think niel druckmann may have overly subverted expectations as a lot of people wanted ellie to take vengeance in the end, but i thought the story was a beautiful story of absolution and i think the themes kinda got lost in all the hatred and animosity towards abby from the leaks as well as her killing joel. i did end up liking her at the end (the wolves can still go screw themselves) and mel and owen were boring. i did like lev and yara though. There are many parallels between the story of joel and ellie and that of abby and lev's. both joel and abby had loved ones who were killed, both became killers themselves, whether it be for the hunters or the WLF, and both found themselves a new family in the form of children who theyd risk everything for. both had similar arcs of redemption as well as a past that was bound to catch up with them in the form of abby pursuing joel and ellie persuing abby. i thought ellie sparing abby after being reminded of her giving the effort to forgive joel for killing the fireflies.
Also this is not a "last jedi" situation because i think the story is actually well written but maybe not so well executed at certain points.
