I don't like sports, never heard of the VonErichs, and I don't choose to see movies about sports. What attracted me was that the movie was about family and parent-child relationships. I liked this film very much and I recommend it. The only problem I had was editing. There were a few scenes that added nothing to the story, and there were other scenes that went on too long with people just sitting there.

Excellent acting, but I found the movie confusing and difficult to follow. The sound direction/effects were way too much, too intense. The gratuitous sexy scenes - I'm so bored with those. I envision Hollywood production staff sitting at a large table discussing where to put the sex scenes in movies as if they add anything to the story. I think had Nolan made the storyline linear, I would have enjoyed it more.

Updated review - after the part about Alden (subject of Jay's Journal), I became engrossed again. I think the author could've left out much of the book. Still, even though the book is fascinating and brilliantly researched, I have trouble with the author's style. He described someone as looking like "... a rumpled weatherman." Huh? What the heck does that mean? He described a book as "...an overwrought doorstop disguised as a memoir." An overwrought doorstop? Huh? What the heck does that mean? Still, I recommend this book. Yes, the author has an informal style, complete with sarcasm and some F words (you can tell he does podcasts), and writing "done" instead of "finished," and the couple "were" instead of "was," please read it. It will make you angry!
