Updated review - after the part about Alden (subject of Jay's Journal), I became engrossed again. I think the author could've left out much of the book.
Still, even though the book is fascinating and brilliantly researched, I have trouble with the author's style.
He described someone as looking like "... a rumpled weatherman." Huh? What the heck does that mean?
He described a book as "...an overwrought doorstop disguised as a memoir." An overwrought doorstop? Huh? What the heck does that mean?
Still, I recommend this book. Yes, the author has an informal style, complete with sarcasm and some F words (you can tell he does podcasts), and writing "done" instead of "finished," and the couple "were" instead of "was," please read it. It will make you angry!
