Benjamin Brown

A heartfelt, earnest love letter to fantasy literature that neatly avoids the pitfalls that dog most genre films. Rather than be constrained by budget, the film presents a tight, well-paced exploration of revenge and dedication. Though the film is undeniably violent, much of the action is elided, revealing only the aftermath. The darkness and savagery of the protagonist is a bloody handprint across this film, rather than spraying ichor and cinematically sailing limbs. An excellent entry to the genre canon, and a compelling watch.
