Lots of tension but slower than molasses going uphill in winter! The men, by and large are no goodniks. Took me two days to get through it. Would have given up but required watching for our movie club. Surely lots of symbolism, but you have to stay awake to parse it.

Great and complex mysteries with minimal actual violence, blood and gore! France was home for many years and French is my native language so I enjoy this aspect also. Each episode takes place in a different part of France which is very appealing. I do note that things almost always take place in winter, not summer as that would have to deal with tourists. A recurring theme is that the lead is almost always a strong middle aged woman. There is some romance but it doesn’t dominate.
