(NO SPOILERS)
I have been super excited to read this book, so right before I got it, I read a bunch of reviews to see other people’s opinions. Unfortunately after I read the reviews, I was really nervous this book was going to be really boring and disgusting and became worried that I wouldn’t want to finish it. Well I LOVED it! I read the whole thing in two days and couldn’t put it down! It is one of my favorite books I’ve read and I can’t wait for the sequel!
For those of you who are put off by the reviews, just know the beginning of the book is full of excellent character introductions/development and I found it very interesting. Also all the comments complaining about disgusting/unpleasant things, I didn't think anything went over the top and the comments made me think I would be grossed out the whole book.
I give this book a 10/10. It is unlike what I normally read (Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J Maas, Sabaa Tahir) but it is a mystery and a coming of age story that takes place in very realistic setting while staying fantasy because of the magic. Leigh Bardugo wrote this work of fiction in a way that shines light on real life issues in a way that a lot of people don’t view the world.
