Fire & Blood makes a fantastic addition for those looking to supplement their knowledge of the world that author George R.R. Martin has constructed. It provides a riveting history of Westeros and the events preceding A Song of Ice and Fire with never a dull moment.
Written in the perspective of Archmaester Gyldayne, it embraces a narrative different from that of the original series, but manages to keep the reader enthralled, nonetheless. It is — in my humble opinion — an absolute must-have for true fans looking to expand their insight into the myriad mysteries and surfeit of subtleties of A Song of Ice and Fire, as well as those looking to keep the spirit of ice and fire alive while anxiously awaiting the release of The Winds of Winter.
(For those interested, I would also highly recommend The World of Ice and Fire as an additional supplement to the collection!)
