Where to even start w/ this show... If I could give this show 0 stars, I would. I went into watching this super excited to see a new interior design show that made it 2 seasons on Netflix and thought, 'wow, this must be pretty good!' I wanted to love Dream Home Makeover, I truly did, and even watched the full two seasons to see if it would get better design wise. I have no IDEA how this show even got a second season on Netflix. A complete waste of time... if you're looking to mindlessly binge watch a Netflix show after work that's more a boring reality TV show w/ little to no actual interior design knowledge, then look no further, this is the show! I was terribly disappointed to see the Pinterest perfect, white coastal multi-million dollar home look displayed in every. single. one of these homes. Extremely basic (neutrals and MAYbe a navy blue here and there) and zero diversity from the "design aesthetic" to every person on the show, from the design team, Shea and Sid, and even the clients! No diversity w/ employees anywhere throughout both seasons on the team- everybody, from the construction crew, to the design team, Sid and Shea and clients look like they were filtered through an Instagram worthy look (ultra white teeth, perfect hair, same boutique clothing style). Not wholesome and down to earth at all and extremely forced looking. On a budget of $20,000 for a living room remodel that looks straight off a basic Pottery Barn ad, really? Don't even get me started on Shea's personality that comes across on the show. My family started watching this show w/ me in the evenings, just for the entertainment of watching Shea rave on 90% about herself, her kids and the business and 10% actual interior design help. Check out Interior Design Masters or Fixer Upper if you're really looking to learn more about interior design! The way she degrades her husband is truly cringe worthy to watch- she is constantly tearing him and his manhood down, from how he doesn't parent like she wants and criticizes her husband IN FRONT of the clients and her kids (even though he does 80% of the parenting and their super cute daughters just seem adore spending time w/ him and they seem forced and uncomfortable on any of the scenes w/ their mom), to what he eats, and how he isn't good w/ any household stuff. Oh, and the main contractor guy Tyler is clearly happily married- there's several times throughout the show where she flirts w/ him and is overly praising of him over her husband. Truly feel sorry for Sid being married to this woman. Shea only sticks to her Instagram-perfect design aesthetic and completely goes against what her clients request, i.e. barn home beams episode where she ignored the clients request and painted them stark white after the client specifically said he wanted them left as is, Hawaiian theme episode where she *totally changed the theme the lady requested to fit her coastal aesthetic. No genuine care for her clients and their wishes or for her husband. Majorly disappointed w/ this show. If you are going to watch this show, do yourself a favor and skip to the last 4 mins of the show w/ the reveal at the end. Rant over.
