Another magical movie by Shoojit Sircar which displays a beautiful portrayal of two people's lives. I
could have easily got bored with the basic story the movie, but the performances, direction,
cinematography just creates magic on the screen and makes one feel the essence of the film.
This film is so pure so magical it touches your heart and soul completely. I am happy somebody
made a film which is pure romance and pure love, if one want to know what love means, what caring
for other people means, then the person should definitely watch OCTOBER. Both lead actors put
their soul in acting, its a film which will be remembered forever as a classic. It’s a movie which has a
lot of internal meaning hidden in it. It is not a movie which will make you cry instantly but certainly it
will make you realise the true value of love.
Varun Dhawan is the lead actor in this movie and his performance was absolutely majestic. This will
go down as one of his best performances ever. Varun was playing the role of ‘Dan’ and his other
notable cast members were Banita Sandhu, who played the role of ‘Shiuli’ and Gitanjali Rao who was
‘Prof. Vidya Iyer’. The Film is titled October as the lead actress name in the film is Shiuli which
means flower. The Shiuli flowers start to blossom from month of October.
Dan (Varun Dhawan) is living the life of any carefree 21 year old, revolving around a bunch of friends
and fellow hotel interns who feed off each other's everyday moments, their ups and downs. Shiuli
(Banita Sandhu) is one such intern at the same hotel, who at times is at a receiving end of Dan's
audaciousness. Life goes on until a sudden turn of events smashes Dan and Shiuli's lives together,
into a bond that's unlike any 21 year olds. On New Year's Eve, Shiuli and her friends party on the
third floor of the hotel, when Dan is nowhere to be found. Shiuli accidentally slips off and is
hospitalized. While other members of the hotel staff visit her at the hospital, Dan gets seriously
affected when his friends tell him that Shiuli's last words just before her fall were "Where is Dan?".
Dan starts visiting the hospital every day, despite that negatively affecting both his job and his
relationship with his friends who cover his shifts and help him financially. After a scuffle at the hotel,
Dan is terminated. He finds comfort being with Shiuli who slowly starts to improve and Dan's mere
presence calms Shiuli. He devotes his entire time to taking care of her. The emotional connection
between them goes through a metamorphosis that brings out a form of love that's unlike any other
eventually leading to an internal awakening. One sudden night Shiuli suffers a seizure and dies as her lungs collapsed. Emotionally broken, Dan visits Shiuli's home and comforts her despaired family.
Several months later, Dan is rehired by the hotel where he completes his diploma and works as a
sous chef.
One day, he notices several missed calls and visits Vidya. They sit in the backyard discussing Shiuli.
Pointing at the shiuli plant in the backyard, Vidya tells Dan that she was named Shiuli because of her
fondness for the shiuli flower, which she loved collecting as a child. Vidya tells Dan about her family
shifting to their hometown Trichy. She doesn't wish to leave Shiuli's plant, but Dan assures her that
he would take care of it.
As the story ends, Shiuli's family has moved and Dan carries the shiuli plant with him, as a symbol of
the unconditional and unconventional love which had blossomed in his heart for Shiuli.
October is not a Love Story, but rather a story about love.
