The movie wasn't even remotely related to the books. Apart from the character's names, the story was completely different. The characters had drastically different personalities and motivations. The plot wasn't close to anything at all in the books. It wasn't just that the story was told poorly; it wasn't told at all.
If you haven't read the books it was still disappointing. The entire movie was rushed, every line was delivered as fast as possible, many many explanations were just skipped entirely, the acting was atrocious, and overall the movie just didn't make sense. It had a Disney "Everything is magically fixed at the end for no reason" feel to it, rather than the characters earning any sort of reward or helping to conclude the adventure with any skills or actions themselves. It felt like the movie should have been twice as long to include all the information the viewer is left to try to imagine while also trying to follow a disjointed and rushed plot. I recommend against watching this movie. Disney needs to understand that they've let down millions of fans who have been waiting over a decade to see this book brought to life, only to have it ruined in every way possible.
