After watching 20 minutes or so I've seen enough. There are more sellers of bogus information than just "the food industry" and "the government" here. Let's take the parents themselves. The parents of these children literally aren't even thinking. It isn't rocket science that excess carbs turn into fat, and it seems near impossible to me that they've never heard this from anyone or from anywhere. It's possible to run one's life entirely through non-thinking behavior. Thinking is hard and often leads to thinking about painful things, and these parents are people from painful backgrounds. This entrusting other people to think for them is the way they self medicate. Their children have them for parents and then copy their self medicating, non-thinking behavior via eating food that makes them feel better momentarily, and who are their parents to show them how to do otherwise when they do so too in their own ways, either with food themselves or by stifling their thoughts with other methods, like entrusting people to do their thinking for them like in this instance, people who are just using them for monthly insurance payments and insulin sales.
Pose each parent this, "Would you rather think or let your kid die?"
People are a lot smarter than they're given credit for, and I think these parents are secretly getting exactly what they want. Not specifically fat children, but what is brought along with it, in some cases a Munchausen syndrome, maybe a woe-is me-it's-not-my-fault-self-esteem-boost, maybe attention from other people like the doctors or other parents that they wouldn't get otherwise. Let's say their children had no problems and didn't self medicate, that would bode poorly towards their own prospects of being able to continue their own self medicating behavior lest their problem-free children call them out on it.
