The story is heart-wrenching but it is very enjoyable. The colours play a big part in the novel. Definitely one of my favourite books!

Would really recommend this book for anyone wanting to read what the Caribbean was like ( honing in on Trinidad) in the 1940's. It was enjoyable and the characters felt like real people.
