I am a 78 year old retired M.D. (specialty- diagnostic radiology). About six years ago, my husband found FOK on Netflix, and after we watched it, we began the whole food plant based (WFPB) diet described in the film. We later attended Dr. Essestyn's weekend seminar at the Cleveland Clinic, and have continued on the plan to the present day. There is a lot of related information on the internet, which can get very complicated, even as a student of medicine, and Drs. Esselstyn and Campbell are still my go-to for guidance in planning meals and making medical decisions. It's the closest thing we have to the truth right now IMO. Personally, I lost 45 lbs in 6 months with no additional exercise, and have had no cardiac symptoms and normal exercise tests. The impetus for my beginning WFPB, was finding out I had extensive coronary artery calcification on a CT scan. For my husband, he already had a cardiac pacemaker and a demonstrated single narrowing in a coronary artery (LAD) of about 70%, for which a stent was recommended but declined because we trusted the diet to prevent progression, and that was three years ago.
